Brown Box Prt. 1 (The Envelope)

THE ENVELOPE

Left inside the envelope, these two film strips are part of a larger collection that will be presented in three parts. There is no specific indication of the year or location where the images were shot; however, by comparing them to the rest of the content they were found with, we can assume the images were taken in the mid-1950s in Lanchester, United Kingdom.

THE PICTURES

The pictures were taken on 16mm subminiature film, depicting a rugby match and two men working in a garden. The 16mm subminiature film is a still photography format dating back to the 1920s. Most of the cameras designed for this format were quite simplistic, often lacking exposure control tools and featuring only a fixed-focus lens. This economical design is evident in the intrinsic fragility of the resulting images, which are mostly blurry and lower resolution compared to standard 35mm images.

SIGNS OF TIME

Another observable feature in this series are the marks left by time and storage conditions these images were subjected to. On slide No. XX, we can see scretches and marks of fungus that developed on the negative.
